FRANKLIN, Mass. – Sophomore attacker
Nick Fernandez (Weymouth, Mass.) scored five goals and eight total points in men's lacrosse's 16-7 victory over Thomas College on Thursday afternoon. With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 2-0 on the year, while the Terriers start their season 0-1.
Notables:
-Junior
Manny Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) reached two career milestones in Dean's victory. He reached 100 career goals while also achieving 150 career points. He finished the day with three goals and two assists.
How it Happened:
-The Bulldogs opened the scoring less than two minutes into the contest. Alvarez-Segee buried a shot in the back of the net, capping off an impressive unassisted effort. Dean now had the early 1-0 lead over Thomas.
-Just over thirty seconds later, Dean struck again. Fernandez tallied this goal from an assist by sophomore
Connor McCarthy (Whitman, Mass.). The man-up score gave Dean the 2-0 advantage.
-Thomas' Owen Lyons broke their scoreless run at the 12:10 mark, splitting the Bulldog lead.
-Fernandez and
Joseph Marra (North Branford, Conn.) scored twice in the final two minutes of the quarter to extend the Dean lead to 4-2.
-The Bulldogs outscored the Terriers 6-3 in the second frame while outshooting them 15-6.
-Marra posted back-to-back goals to start the quarter's scoring, completing his hat trick performance. Dean also saw scores this frame from C. McCarthy, Fernandez, and Alvarez-Segee. At the end of the half, Dean had an impressive 10-4 advantage.
-Just like the second, Dean continued their offensive prowess in the third quarter. They replicated their six goals from the previous quarter with 14 total shots.

Kyle Pianka (Greenville, R.I.) found the box score less than three minutes into the frame. Fernandez scored yet another point in the effort with an assist. Shortly after,
Jimmy Erickson (Derry, N.H.) grabbed his first goal as a Bulldog, unassisted.
-At the end of the third, Dean held a profound lead over the Terriers, 16-6.
-Thomas scored the only goal in the final quarter. Connor Hamilton scored an unassisted effort on goalkeeper
David MacNeil (Whitman, Mass.). This gave Thomas their seventh goal of the game.
-However, the goal did not change the final outcome. The Bulldogs held on to take the victory by a final score of 16-7.
