Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Felicio, Johnson Register 11 Kills in Tight-Knit Loss to Lyons, 3-1

FRANKLIN, Mass. – Senior Arthur Felicio (Saugus, Brazil) and first-year Travis Johnson (Taunton, Mass.) registered 11 kills each in men's volleyball's 3-1 loss to Wheaton College (Mass.) on Tuesday evening. With the loss, the Bulldogs dropped to 3-7 overall, while the Lyons improved to 6-5.

How it Happened:
-Connor Lloyd grabbed the first score of the game, securing a kill at the front of the net. Antonio Varela (East Providence, R.I.) quickly followed up with a kill of his own. Travis Johnson (Taunton, Mass.) also grabbed a kill from libero Mason Rua (São Pedro du Sol, Portugal).
-The first three points set the tone for the entire first set. Neither side saw a lead higher than five points, with the lead being exchanged several times.
-Set one was decided in the final three points. Dean cut their lead to two with a strong kill from first-year Brandon Mimande (East Providence, R.I.). However, this was followed by a kill from Wheaton's Landon Hascom.
-Despite one last score from Noah Allan (Windham, N.H.), the Bulldogs fell in the first set by a final score of 25-22.
-The second set followed the same style of play as the first. Neither side conceded a lead of more than five points and half of the set's total points were kills.
-Dean tied the set 20-20 with four consecutive scores. Felicio dropped three straight kills, followed by an attack error drawn by Mimande.
-However, despite their best efforts to tie the set, Wheaton rallied for their own quartet of scores. They eventually took set two by a final score of 25-21.
-Dean, now down 2-1, came out firing in the third set. Johnson opened with another kill, followed by several Wheaton attack errors. After another kill by Allan, Dean suddenly saw themselves leading 10-7.
-The turning point came halfway through the set. Felicio continued his impressive performance at the net, forcing additional errors from the Lyons. This allowed Varela to seize the opportunity and score a thrilling kill. For the first time in the match, a team led by more than points. The Bulldogs had six over the Lyons, 15-9.
-Wheaton brought the set close towards the end, scoring six of the next eight points. However, the Bulldogs put an end to the run with an emphatic score from Johnson. Dean had now split the difference and forced a fourth set.
-The final set closed the book on an entertaining match. Dean continued to ride their confidence until the very end, holding Wheaton to a lead as high as three points.
-The Bulldogs tied the set at 21 with another score from Johnson, his ninth of 10 total. This prompted Dean to swoop in and take a 23-22 lead with a Mimande kill.
-Alas, this was the final score by the Bulldogs. Varela would have a service error, followed by a kill from Jack Kenyon. With the Match 24-23, Kenyon smashed a ball along the outer line of the court, securing the final kill for Wheaton.
-The Lyons took the tight-knit match by a final score of 3-1.
