FRANKLIN, Mass. – The Dean College men's lacrosse team had a showcase performance on opening day against Anna Maria College. The team scored a combined 20 goals en route to the 20-5 final victory. The win gives Dean a 1-0 start to the year, while the AmCats drop to 0-2 overall.
Notables:
-Junior
Manny Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, Mass.) scored four goals and six total points in his first game of the season.
-Sophomore transfer
Nick Fernandez (Weymouth, Mass.) also scored four goals in his Dean Bulldogs debut.
How it Happened:
-The Bulldogs started their dominance in the first quarter, outscoring the AmCats 9-0. The first goal came just two minutes into the game by Alvarez-Segee. The Bulldogs took the entire time on the shot clock to set up the play, eventually prompting Alvarez-Segee to rush into the circle and score.
-Alvarez-Segee picked up another point just a minute later, this time on an assist from a
Nathan Hartshorn (Weymouth, Mass.) goal.
-Fernandez and Alvarez-Segee each scored three goals in the first quarter, leading Dean's scoring through the first fifteen minutes.
-Dean continued their run in the second quarter, outscoring the AmCats 6-1 and possessing the 15-1 lead at the end of the first half.
-Anna Maria finally got on the board with less than six seconds remaining in the second quarter. Miles Cormier recorded the goal from an assist by Eric Farewell. This eventually became Anna Maria's only goal in the first half.
-Coming out of the locker room, Dean made a change at goalkeeper.
David MacNeil (Whitman, Mass.) took the place of starter
Elijah Beland (Augusta, Maine). MacNeil played just over 26 minutes in the second half, making three saves.
-Anna Maria had their highest scoring quarter in the third with three goals. Jacob Martin scored a man-up goal, followed by scores from Eric Farrell and Carter Hart.
-Dean matched Anna Maria's scores in the third, including a hat-trick goal from first-year
Marc Sauchuk (Uncasville, Conn.).
-Dean capped off their impressive performance in the fourth quarter.
AJ Woodward (New Milford, Conn.) and
Aaron McDonald (Weymouth, Mass.) netted goals to complete the 20-5 victory.
Tyler Sulkala (Norwood, Mass.) also finished the game in-goal.
