CHICOPEE, Mass. – Junior
Agata Markuns (Boxford, Mass.) found the back of the net for her first score as a Bulldog in Saturday's road trip to Elms College. However, the Dean College women's soccer team ultimately fell short in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play by a final score of 2-1. With the loss, Dean drops to 2-9-2 (1-5-1 GNAC), while the Blazers improved to 5-4-1 (3-2-0 GNAC).
How it Happened:
-Elms opened the scoring in the 19th minute. Maddie Saunders found the back of the net at 18:01, with Sydney Polica and Emily Basua assisting on the goal.
-Dean found their response just six minutes later. Markuns scored at 24:04 to level the match at 1-1, giving the Bulldogs momentum and sending the teams tied going into halftime.
-
Danielle Reinhard (Las Vegas, Nev.) kept Dean in the contest with a strong performance in goal, making three saves in each half. Elms continued to apply pressure, finishing with 26 shots, including eight on target, but the Bulldogs remained within striking distance.
-Dean worked to stay organized defensively while looking for opportunities to move forward.
Kenzie Sherburne (Durham, N.Y.),
Kacie Consolini (Stafford Springs, Conn.) and Markuns each recorded a shot for the Bulldogs, who finished with three shots overall and one on goal.
-Elms eventually broke the tie in the 82nd minute. Basua scored at 81:34 off an assist from Saunders, giving the hosts a 2-1 lead. Dean was unable to find a late equalizer as Elms held on for the conference victory.
