WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Dean College women's soccer team secured a historic 2-0 win on Tuesday evening, taking down the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) for the first time in program history. The team also earned three crucial points in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) standings, keeping them in contention for postseason play.
The victory improved the Bulldogs to 3-9-2 overall and 2-5-1 in GNAC play. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays dropped to 0-8-1 overall (0-5-1 GNAC).
Notables:
-Along with the team milestone, first-year
Liz Serrano (Magnolia, Del.) scored her first career goal on an insurance score for the Bulldogs.
How it Happened:
-The Bulldogs wasted no time getting on the score card. Sophomore
Kenzie Sherburne (Durham, N.Y.) opened the scoring at 13:59 with her first goal of the season, giving the Bulldogs an early 1-0 advantage.
-Serrano doubled the lead at 26:15, scoring her first goal of the season off an assist from
Kacie Consolini (Stafford Springs, Conn.). Serrano finished with three shots, including two on-goal, while Consolini added a shot and an assist.
-Dean's defense held Saint Joseph scoreless despite the hosts holding a 17-11 advantage in shots. The back line of
Kassidy Martins (East Providence, R.I.),
Makenzie Sparacia (Old Westbury, N.Y.), and
Meaghan Cunningham (Taunton, Mass.) helped the Bulldogs preserve the clean sheet.
-Goalkeeper
Danielle Reinhard (Las Vegas, Nev.) made four saves to record the shutout, moving just three saves away from reaching 300 career saves.

Zia Lear (Griswold, Conn.) led Dean with four shots, while
Agata Markuns (Boxford, Mass.) and Colleen McIntyre (Southwick, Mass.) also recorded shots.
