Henniker, NH- After turning on the burners heading into the holiday break, guard
Izayah Porter (Jonesboro, GA) set ablaze this past Monday. His 20-point effort, tying a career-high, helped the Bulldogs fly past New England College by a final score of 87-67. The non-conference win moves Dean to 9-3 overall, while the Pilgrims drop to 5-5.
How it Happened:
-In fitting fashion, Porter opened the contest's scoring, converting on two points underneath the basket. Shortly after the Pilgrims got on the board, Porter struck again, scoring on his second layup of the half.
-As a matter of fact, Porter would go to score eight of Dean's first ten points of the game.
Christian Yeates (Atlanta, GA) would have the other two on a layup of his own.
-Despite the strong efforts on offense, NEC would keep the score close throughout thr entirety of the first half. The Pilgrims would lead for nine of the half's 20 minutes. They also saw a margin as high as nine points approaching the halfway mark of the frame.
-Dean began its comeback in the latter portion of the half. Both
Xavier Rubio (San Diego, CA) and
Donnary Fontenot (Atlanta, GA) converted on longe range baskets. Both Porter and
Randy Vasquez (Methuen, MA) also drew fouls, eventually scoring on their free throw attempts.
-The game would be tied at 23 by a three-point shot from Yeates. This would set up Rubio for the remainder of the half, who led the scoring charge. The senior scored eight points in the final minutes to help Dean have a 35-3 lead going into the locker room.
-Dean would dominate the second half box score, out-pacing the Pilgrims 52-36. This time, it would be
Naser Motley (Everett, WA) pushing the pile. The junior would score 16 points in the second half, marking one of his best single-half performances this year.
-Porter would also have a solid second half, posting eight points with a defensive rebound.
-After going up by a large margin, the Bulldogs went to their reserves through the final minutes. This saw the collegiate debut of
Graham Moose (Fuquay-Varina, NC), who scored his first basket on a fast break to the paint. His basket would be the last of the game, giving the Bulldogs the 87-67 victory.
