Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

First-Half Success Falls Short in Women’s Basketball’s Loss to Blue Jays, 79-60

FRANKLIN, Mass. – Despite a marvelous first half, the Dean College women's basketball team was defeated by the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Wednesday evening inside Pieri Gymnasium. With the 79-60 loss, the Bulldogs dropped to 5-13 (0-5), while the Blue Jays improved to 6-13 (4-2).

How it Happened:
-The Bulldogs came out swinging to open the game's first quarter. After a 6-0 opening statement from USJ, the Bulldogs rebutted with consecutive three-pointers from Azaria Landry (Lacey, Wash.) and Abigail Lacy (Arroyo Grande, Calif.).
-Lacy became a large factor in Dean's early success, scoring eight of the team's first 15 points.
-The score settled at 17-15 at the end of the first. Landry converted on one last layup, making it a one score possession.
-After drawing a foul to open the second quarter, Kenzie Sherburne (Durham, N.Y.) tied the game at the free throw line. Her two conversions made the game 17-17. Shortly after, Dean took a brief lead on a layup from Lacy.
-Both sides continued to exchange blows throughout the second quarter, with neither side seeing a lead higher than four points.
-However, with about 90 seconds remaining in the half, the Blue Jays began their surge. They finished the second quarter with a 9-0 run and led 41-30 at halftime.
-The third quarter ultimately decided the fate of the Bulldogs. USJ outscored Dean 23-11 while shooting over 75 percent from the field. Landry and Kendrah Doane (New Salem, Mass.) led Dean's scoring during this quarter with three points each.
-Dean rallied in the final frame, outscoring the Blue Jays 19-15. Doane caught fire in the fourth, scoring nine points while converting on all her three-point attempts. Jordan Ellis (Bridgeport, Conn.) also aided in the push with four points.
-However, despite their best efforts, the Bulldogs ultimately fell short to USJ by a final score of 79-60.
