FRANKLIN, Mass. – The Dean College men's basketball team fell short on Wednesday night in their return to Pieri Gymnasium. Despite keeping pace in the second half, the Bulldogs were defeated by the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) by a final score of 89-77. With the loss, Dean drops to 13-5 (3-2), while the Blue Jays improve to 13-6 (6-0).
How it Happened:
-Dean opened with the game's first basket.
Christian Yeates (Atlanta, Ga.) charged downhill and finished at the glass. Yeates' layup would set the pace for the game's first two minutes.
-Less than 10 seconds later, USJ's Friedrich Feldrappe answered with a score of his own. This also set up a three-point shot by Jakari Tertulien.
-The chess game continued through the opening minutes.
Naser Motley (Everett, Wash.) aided Dean's efforts with eight straight points, eventually giving them the lead once again. Roel Figueroa also landed a three-point shot for the Blue Jays in that span.
-At the eleven-minute mark of the half, the Blue Jays began to run away. They would see a lead as high as fifteen points, including strong efforts from both the paint and beyond the arc.
-Towards the end of the first half, Dean began to mount their comeback. Yeates and
Randy Vasquez (Methuen, Mass.) would both score underneath the basket. The Bulldogs would cut into USJ's lead, 44-31, going into the locker room.
-The Bulldogs came out firing after the intermission, scoring nine of the half's first fifteen points. This included scores from
Izayah Porter (Jonesboro, Ga.) and
Donnary Fontenot (Atlanta, Ga.).
-USJ continued their dominance from deep-range. Lence Altenor led the way, converting multiple times with just over ten minutes to go in the game. Feldrappe also aided with scores inside the basket.
-The Bulldogs would get as close as nine points, with Motley scoring once again at the rim. Motley finished the game with a team-high 21 points.
-With USJ entering the bonus in the final two minutes, they successfully closed out the game. The Blue Jays finished victorious with a final score of 89-77.
