NEWTON, Mass. – The Dean College women's basketball team was defeated by Lasell University on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. The 86-60 loss drops Dean to 5-12 (0-4), while the Lasers improve to 15-3 (4-1).
How it Happened:
-Lasell got out to a quick start in the first quarter with an 8-0 run. However, junior guard
Azaria Landry (Lacey, Wash.) would end that run with five consecutive points. She would convert on a tipped layup, followed by a three-point shot.
-The Bulldogs kept the score close in the first quarter. They scored 18 points in the first frame, eventually becoming their highest total in a quarter. However, Lasell still led 23-18.
-The Lasers began to run away in the second quarter, outscoring Dean 21-9.
Jordan Ellis (Bridgeport, Conn.) led the Bulldogs in second quarter scoring with four points.
-At the end of the first half, Lasell led Dean by a score of 44-27.
-Dean came out of the locker room with a revived offense. The Bulldogs scored 17 more points in the third quarter, including eight from senior
Abigail Lacy (Arroyo Grande, Calif.). Landry also posted five points in this quarter.
-The offensive theme continued for Dean throughout the entire second half. The Bulldogs scored 16 more points in the quarter while shooting 35 percent from the field.
-However, despite their strong efforts, Lasell continued to trounce the basket. Their 42 second-half points would seal the victory by a final score of 86-60.
