NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Dean College women's basketball team was defeated by Colby-Sawyer College on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 77-52. With the loss, Dean falls to 5-11 and 0-3 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. Meanwhile, the Chargers improve to 6-9 (1-1).
How it Happened:
-Colby-Sawyer would get out to an early lead through the first quarter. The Chargers outscored Dean 17-7 while shooting 41 percent from the field.
-The Bulldogs found their stride in the final minutes of the first quarter. The team went on a 5-0 run, including baskets from both
Azaria Landry (Lacey, Wash.) and
Abigail Lacy (Arroyo Grande, Calif.).
-Dean continued their run in the second quarter with 17 additional points. This included a three-point play from
Kendrah Doane (New Salem, Mass.) to start the scoring.
-However, the Chargers continued to gallop. They scored 21 more points in the second frame to lead the Bulldogs 38-22 at halftime.
-Colby-Sawyer once again had Dean's number in the third quarter. They would go on a 12-0 run to open the second half. This eventually contributed to a total of 27 points in the quarter.
-The Bulldogs did see offensive action in the third, most notably from Lacy. She would snag five of Dean's first points in the half & get them back into the box score.
-Dean would surge back in the final quarter, outscoring the Chargers 17-12.
Jordan Ellis (Bridgeport, Conn.) led the Bulldogs with seven points in the frame. Lacy also capped an impressive performance with six more points.
-However, the third quarter efforts by Colby-Sawyer ultimately set them up for the win. The Chargers were victorious with a final score of 77-52.
