Franklin, MA- The Dean College Field Hockey team produced a strong comeback in the second half, but their efforts came up short in the final minutes against Bridgewater State University. With the 2-3 loss, Dean moves to 6-6 (2-1 GNAC) on the year, while the Bears move to 7-1 (3-0 MASCAC).
How it Happened:
-The game would open with mimicked sequences from both sides. Bridgewater State would be awarded a penalty corner, followed by two stopped shots by the Bulldogs. Shortly after, Dean would be given a penalty corner chance. Both of their shots would be saved by goalkeeper Brianna Gagnon.Â
-Bridgewater would open the scoring in the final minute of the quarter. Ellie Moberg would find the back of the net, assisted by Samantha Souza, to give the Bears the 1-0 lead.
-Just two minutes later, Bridgewater would score again. Freshman sensation Samantha Souza would get the goal, assisted by Abbie Zuber, to bring the BSU lead to 2-0.Â
-Zuber would get a goal of her own in the back half of the second quarter, making it 3-0 BSU. After allowing just two shots to the Bulldogs in the second, Bridgewater held a strong lead heading into halftime.
-After the break, the Bulldogs came out with a completely different energy. Dean opened the third with consecutive shots around the box, with Gagnon making the saves. However, the Bulldogs would finally break through in the sequence.
Emily Yazzetti (Mahopac, NY), who is second in the nation in points scored, would get the unassisted goal. Dean now trailed 3-1.
-Dean would score again ninety seconds into the final quarter. Junior
Emily Kilpatrick (Marion, MA) found the back of the net, with the assist going to
Katrina Lee (Brookline, NH). With all the momentum on their side, Dean now trailed by just one.
-The Bulldogs would continue their barrage, securing multiple penalty corners and shots in the box. Brianna Gagnon was put to the test, but the BSU keeper continued to stand tall.
