Felipe Castillo (Tampa, FL) scored in the 83rd minute to help the Dean College men's soccer team earn a Saturday victory at New England College. The 1-0 win moves Dean to 3-5-2 (2-3-0) on the year, while New England College drops to 5-4-0 (1-3-0).
How it Happened:
-The Bulldogs would start right out of the get, getting the match's first shot just 54 seconds in. Senior
Brian Allen (Fort Lauderdale, FL) would get the attempt, but the ball sailed high.
Ethan Henderson (Hartlepool, England) would also get a corner kick, but the Bulldogs came away empty-handed.
-The remainder of the first half would be a tense game of chess between both sides.
Brody Cook (Syracuse, NY) would get a pair of shots, both of which unable to convert. NEC would also get their fair share of shots, all of which saved by senior goalkeeper
Jake Godwin (Norwalk, CT).
-Dean would get one final corner kick and shot at the half, but they once again could not score. The match remained scoreless after the first 45 minutes of action.
-After the break, Dean opened with the first shot of the second half.
Raul Maldonado (Spring Hill, FL) took the shot, but it was saved by NEC keeper Lukas Tate. The Bulldogs would then rattle off five shots in the next 20 minutes, keeping the Pilgrims on their toes. NEC also had two corner kicks during that time span, being blanked by the Bulldog defense.
-After countless tries on offense, the Bulldogs broke through the barrier at last. In the 83rd minute, Castillo banked home the goal, giving Dean the 1-0 lead with just over seven minutes to go.
-NEC would get one more chance in the 89th minute, but it sailed high of the goal. It then allowed
Ayomide Talabi (Hamilton, NJ) to go down the field and get one last shot in the 90th minute. The ball hit the crossbar, but it secured the 1-0 Dean victory in full time.
