Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Takes Down Salem State in Offensive Showdown, 2-1

Franklin, MA- The Dean College men's soccer team took down Salem State University in an offensive showdown Wednesday afternoon. The 2-1 win puts Dean at 2-3-2 (0-1-0) on the year, while the Vikings drop to 2-3-1 (0-1-1).

How it Happened:
-The first half set the stage for the entirety of the match. While Salem State would get the opening shot, the Bulldogs would quickly respond. Senior Chris Tunley (Las Vegas, NV) would get his first shot of the game, leveling the playing field.
-The Bulldogs would pull a baseball-type strategy in goal, rotating three different goalkeepers throughout the match. First-year Andrew Wheelan (Narragansett, RI) would open the match, making three saves in just over 14 minutes of action. Colin Edwards (Belmont, CA) would then take over, seeing the longest stint in goal. He would play over 45 minutes, making four saves in the time frame.
-After playing scoreless through the near entirety of the first half, Dean finally got their chance. Tunley would draw a penalty kick, eventually striking one in the back of the net. The captain's first goal of the year would give the Bulldogs the lead going into halftime.
-Similar to the first half, the Vikings would attempt first, but came up empty-handed on a header. This allowed Charlie Hall (Plainville, CT) to take over in-goal for Edwards.
-In the 18th minute, the Vikings broke their drought. Stephane Fevry buried one behind Hall, tying the game at one apiece.
-However, just 22 seconds later, Raul Maldonado (Spring Hill, FL) would break free and give Dean the go-ahead goal. The Bulldogs now led Salem State 2-1 with just over 20 minutes left to play.
-The Vikings would pepper the goal in the final minutes of action, but Hall would thwart all their attempts. The first-year keeper stood tall and kept his team in front. The Bulldogs would win the match in full time by a final score of 2-1.
