Franklin, MA- The Dean College field hockey team fell short in their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest of the season. The team lost to Colby-Sawyer College by a final score of 1-4. With the loss, Dean now moves to 3-3 (0-1) on the year, while the Chargers advance to 2-2 (1-0).
How it Happened:
-The Chargers wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. Cecilia Ponzini scored the first goal of the game just 54 seconds in, making a statement for Colby-Sawyer.
-About two and a half half minutes later, Jillien Fredette added another score for the Chargers. Ava Bennett picked up an assist on the score, making it 2-0 Colby-Sawyer.
-In the 24th minute of the contest, the Chargers struck again. Brooke Farquhar made it 3-0 on an unassisted score. Entering halftime, Dean would find themselves trailing.
-In the third quarter, the Bulldogs showed promising fight in the opening minutes. Senior
Sydnee Ramos (New Bedford, MA) picked up a close goal.
Emily Kilpatrick (Marion, MA) would get the assist on the score. Dean cut the lead down, 1-3.
-The Bulldogs defense would hold strong through the remaining portion of the third quarter.
Jadyn Crowell (Bordentown, NJ) picked up a key defense save, allowing goalkeeper
Allie Stockwell (Burrillville, RI) to gain her footing.
Shea Cassani (Belgrade, ME) also picked up a defensive save in the third.
-Colby-Sawyer would seal the deal in the 48th minute of the contest. Fredette recorded her second of the game, making it 4-1 early in the fourth quarter. After a strong finish on defense by the Chargers, Dean would fall short and lose their third consecutive game.
