Franklin, MA- The Dean College women's volleyball team fell on opening night to Bay Path University by a final score of three sets to two. The Bulldogs drop to 0-1 on the season, while the Wildcats pickup their first win on the year.
How it Happened:
-The Bulldogs got out to a hot start in the opening set. Senior
Caitlin Cooper (Amherst, NH) and junior
Emma Siniscalchi (Huntington, NY) scored back-to-back to open the match. Cooper dropped in a kill while Siniscalchi recorded her first service ace of the season.
-Dean bulldozed their way through the first set, seeing kills by
Maddy Seymour (Simsbury, CT),
Carly Rettberg (Haddam, CT), and
Chloe Demaio (Needham, MA). They would see a lobsided 25-13 victory in the first set.
-Set two brought much of the same for the Bulldogs. Dean scored five straight points out of the break, including multiple scores and an ace from
Maddie Bell (New Milford, CT). However, halfway throughout the set, the momentum began to shift. Bay Path took six straight points to keep it within two. The rest would be a back-and-forth battle. Although Dean took the set 25-23, Bay Path had gained their confidence back.
-In sets three and four, Bay Path would claw their way back into the match. Multiple kills at the net, combined with costly errors by the Dean attack, allowed the Wildcats to capitalize. Bay Path would take set three by two points, and set four by three points.
-With the match forced into a sudden death fifth set, Bay Path jumped on the board first. After each team recorded a point, the WIldcats would go on a run, forcing Dean to take a timeout.
-After the pause, Dean would mount a comeback in the fifth set.
Olivia Mackinnon (Plymouth, MA) and Seymour would play a vital role in the end. Both recorded multiple kills and a service ace to keep the Bulldogs within one point. However, with the Bulldogs down by one, a service error would finish the job. Bay Path took the final set 15-13 and the match 3-2.

-Cooper (8 kills, 19 total attacks, block assist)
