Gaunt Breaks Program Goal Record; Women's Lacrosse Rolls to 14-8 Victory Over Blue Jays

Franklin, MA- Women's lacrosse senior Haley Gaunt (Johnston, RI) broke the program's all-time goal record in the team's 14-8 victory over the University of Saint Joseph. Dean now moves to 7-5 (4-3) on the year, while the Blue Jays drop to 3-9 (2-5).

The Blue Jays struck first with a goal two minutes into the game. However, Gaunt wasted no time breaking the program record. The attacker tied the game for Dean at 1-1 and passed Maire Brown (Huntington, NY) with her 136th career goal. The Blue Jays would quickly respond shortly after, scoring four unanswered goals to take a 5-1 lead. Dean would not respond until the 7:54 mark in the second quarter. Allie Stockwell (Burrillville, RI) would notch a goal of her own, followed by consecutive scores from Gaunt and Nina Medeiros (Fairhaven, MA). With USJ scoring two more goals to end the half, the Bulldogs would find themselves down 7-4 going into the break.

After the half, the switch vigorously flipped for Dean. The team would go on to score a staggering 10 unanswered goals, completing the comeback and taking a commanding lead. Gaunt got the party started at the 9:50 mark in the third quarter, securing the hat trick. This was followed by scores from Natalie Peterson (Hudson, MA), Emma Mock (Tunkhannock, MA), Stockwell, and Alisha Caldeira (West Bridgewater, MA). Gaunt, Medeiros, Mock, and Peterson would all score multiple goals each during the stretch.

The fourth quarter was all Bulldogs. Although USJ scored one final goal at 7:48, Dean would go on to secure the victory by a final score of 14-8.

Offensively, Gaunt led the way, scoring all five of her points from goals. Mock also played a significant role, securing two goals and three assists. Peterson notched four points (2G, 2A), Medeiros two points, Stockwell two points, and Caldeira and Caroline Ramsey (Shreveport, LA) each recorded one point. Shea Cassani (Belgrade, ME) got the win in goal, making 13 saves and moving to 5-3 on the season. The game also saw a total of 15 different cards, tying the most in a game at home this season (Vs. Suffolk, 2/22).

The Bulldogs will look to keep their momentum this Saturday, traveling to Albertus Magnus College for a 12:00PM Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest.
