Women's Lacrosse Falls in Close GNAC Contest with Emmanuel, 16-11

Boston, MA- The Dean College women's lacrosse team fell in a closely-contested battle with Emmanuel College by a final score of 16-11. Dean now falls to 6-5 (3-3) on the season, while the Saints move to 7-5 (6-0).

Dean began the game with a strong opening, taking a 3-0 lead in the first quarter. Emma Mock (Tunkhannock, MA) scored the first goal at 14:38, followed by Natalie Peterson (Hudson, MA) scoring back-to-back goals at 14:08 and 13:07. Nina Medeiros (Fairhaven, MA) recorded an assist on the second. Despite Emmanuel's efforts to rally, with Madeline Wright and Rachel Canedy scoring for the Saints, Dean maintained their advantage early on.

However, Emmanuel took control in the second quarter, scoring eight unanswered goals to take a commanding 11-5 lead at halftime. Abby Brown's goal at 11:34 of the second quarter was the first of this dominating stretch. Dean struggled to regain its earlier momentum, as the Saints' offense, led by Wright and Canedy, continued to roll. The Bulldogs responded with a goal from Medeiros at 5:51, assisted by Mock, but the momentum shifted firmly in Emmanuel's favor.

In the second half, Dean's offense was slower to capitalize, managing only a single goal in the third quarter. Peterson's unassisted goal at 2:27 of the third quarter was the only offense from the Bulldogs, as Emmanuel's defense stifled their efforts. Emmanuel, on the other hand, continued to capitalize on their opportunities, adding two more goals in the third period and taking a comfortable 13-6 lead into the final quarter.

Despite a late surge by Dean in the fourth, where they managed to score three more goals, including a pair from Haley Gaunt (Johnston, RI) and Mock, Emmanuel's solid defense ensured the maintenance of their lead. The game ended 16-11 in favor of the Saints, marking a tough but competitive outing for the Bulldogs.

Offensively, Medeiros led the way for the Bulldogs, scoring four points (3G 1A). Peterson, Gaunt, and Mock closely followed with three points each. Shea Cassani (Belgrade, ME) took the loss for Dean in goal, making nine saves in the contest.

Dean will look to respond on Tuesday at 3:00PM, hosting the University of Saint Joseph in another Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest.
