Baseball Strikes Early, but Falls in Senior Day Marathon with Blue Jays, 7-1

Franklin, MA- The Dean College baseball team was defeated in their senior day matchup with the University of Saint Joseph (CT) by a final score of 7-1. With the loss, Dean drops to 8-25 (5-10) on the season, while the Blue Jays move to 20-13 (8-5).

Before the game, the Dean College Department of Athletics & Recreation honored the seniors in the baseball program: Owen Taber (Attleboro, MA), Marcus Baker (Franklin, MA), James Galati (Eastchester, NY), Danny Goyette (Holliston, MA), and Joey Bossinas (Ossining, NY).

The Bulldogs took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning. Nathan Suncar (Boston, MA) doubled to drive in Rylan Secovich (Southwick, MA), putting Dean ahead 1-0. However, the Blue Jays responded in the fifth inning with a solo home run by Scalia, tying the game at 1-1. The Blue Jays then took control in the sixth inning, scoring three runs on a combination of singles and a double, including a two-RBI double by Shaw, which gave them a 4-1 lead. They added two more runs in the seventh inning, extending their lead to 7-1.

Dean's offense struggled to generate momentum throughout the game, managing only seven hits and leaving six runners on base. However, the defense ended the afternoon with zero errors, showcasing a clean & effective outing.

Domenic Brazeau (Warwick, RI) got the start on the mound, finding his groove early. He ended the day with five effective innings, only allowing one earned run on one hit and four strikeouts. Jayden Villalta (Pompton Lakes, NJ) was charged with the loss, allowing three earned runs to and bringing his season record to 0-5.

Offensively, Suncar would be the one to lead the way, recording two hits and the RBI. Five additional players added one hit each, and Secovich would earn two stolen bases in the victory. Secovich now adds to his GNAC-leading 29 stolen bases on the season.

Baseball returns home on Tuesday, April 22nd, hosting Gordon College at 3:00PM.
