Franklin, MA- The Dean College baseball team found their groove on Friday afternoon, sweeping Elms College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. With the pair of wins, Dean moves to 8-24 (5-9) on the season, while Elms drops to 9-19 (4-9).
Game One: Dean College 10, Elms College 7
In the series opener, Elms would jump first and take a 2-0 lead, striking on starting pitcher
Philip Curran (West Springfield, MA). However, the Bulldogs would quickly respond.
Bert Maxim (Teaneck, NJ) grounded out to second base, allowing
Jordan Almendarez (Las Vegas, NV) to score. Dean would tie the game in the next frame off an RBI single from
Luke Fahey (Glastonbury, CT). Elms would take a brief lead thanks to a home run, but the Bulldogs would explode for six more runs over the next three innings to pull forward. Contributions included a
Joey Bossinas (Ossining, NY) RBI,
Rylan Secovich (Southwick, MA) RBI, and
Jadon Murakami (Aiea, HI) RBI triple.Â
Elms would attempt a brief comeback in the ninth, scoring two runs. However, closing pitcher
Kiefer Culligan (South Windsor, CT) would find his footing and slam the door. The Bulldogs walked away victorious in game one by a final score of 10-7. Curran would take the win on the mound, pitching an impressive seven innings.
Owen Critchley (Dayton, ME) would see an inning of work between Curran and Culligan. Offensively, both Fahey and Maxim would take charge, grabbing three hits each.
Tyler Giambra (Prospect, CT) would also tab two hits in the game.
Game Two: Dean College 12, Elms College 8
In game two, it would be the Bulldogs striking first. Bossinas got the party started with his second home run of the season (first since March 13th). Murakami then delivered another RBI knock, scoring two more runs. In the third, Fahey would drive in three more runs off an RBI base hit. After the third frame, Dean would take a strong 6-0 lead. However, over the course of the next two innings, Elms would slowly chip away at the score, eventually overtaking Dean 8-6 in the top of the fifth. Starting pitcher
Nick Swain (South Portland, ME) got into trouble, but was able to work out of the jam and end the inning.Â
In the sixth inning, the Bulldogs would tie the game and not look back.Â
Nathan Suncar (Boston, MA) recorded an RBI triple, scoring
Nick Amendolara (Bayville, NY). Afterward, Suncar would score off a sacrifice flyout from Bossinas. Two innings later, Fahey would rope another double, clearing the bases and scoring two. Amendolara would then return the scoring favor, pushing a run across from an RBI single. The final run of the game would be scored on a smart play on the base paths by Dean. Amendolara started a delayed steal, forcing a balk from pitcher Colby Arnold and allowing Secovich to score. After a strong finish on the mound from Giambra, Dean would win the game 12-8 and sweep the series 2-0.
Almendarez would collect his first win on the mound in relief. Offensively, it would be Amendolara and Bossinas doing the damage, earning three hits each. Four additional players recorded two knocks each for Dean, including Fahey, who finished with five hits on the day.
The Bulldogs return home tomorrow afternoon at 1:00PM, hosting the University of Saint Joseph (CT) in a Senior Day showdown. Senior Day festivities will begin at approximately 12:45PM.
