Franklin, MA- The Dean College women's lacrosse team fell to Johnson & Wales University (RI) Wednesday afternoon by a final score of 15-3. With the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) loss, Dean now falls to 8-6 (4-4) on the season, while the Wildcats advance to 10-3, 8-1).
The Bulldogs' first goal came late in the first quarter when Nina Medeiros (Fairhaven, MA)Â scored off an assist from Alisha Caldeira (West Bridgewater, MA). That goal also marked Medeiros' 100th goal of her career. However, the Wildcats quickly controlled the momentum, scoring five goals in the opening frame to lead 5-1.
The second quarter saw JWU continue to pull away, scoring an additional three goals compared to Dean's one. Emma Mock (Tunkhannock, MA) would net the score for the Bulldogs from an assist from Medeiros, who netted her second point of the afternoon. At the half, though, the Bulldogs would look to regroup, finding themselves down 8-2
Coming out of the break, the Wildcats took the first charge, scoring three unanswered goals. Two of those goals were from Mila Kuilan, who finished the day with six total goals. Dean would net their final goal of the game in this quarter. Haley Gaunt (Johnston, RI) scored an unassisted, man-up goal at 5:05 mark in the third. After three quarters of action, Dean would still trail Johnson & Wales 12-3
The final quarter saw the Wildcats finish the job, scoring three more goals to take the win by a final score of 15-3. Offensively, Medeiros led Dean's efforts, scoring a goal and an assist. Mock, Caldeira, and Gaunt all netted one point each. Shea Cassani (Belgrade, ME) would get the loss in goal after making a season-high 19 saves.
Dean will play in their final home game of the season this Saturday at 12:00PM, hosting Saint Joseph's College of Maine in a Senior Day showdown. Senior Day festivities will begin at approximately 11:45AM.
