Baseball Suffers Heartbreaking Loss in Extras to New England College, 9-8

Rindge, NH- The Dean College baseball team fell in extra innings on Tuesday, losing 9-8 to New England College. With the 11-inning defeat, Dean drops to 6-23 (3-9) on the season, while the Pilgrims move to 7-17 (4-5). The game, which lasted over four hours, was marked by early offensive outbursts and late-game drama.

Dean's offense came out strong in the first inning, plating three runs. Nick Amendolara (Bayville, NY) doubled to center field, driving in two runs, and was later brought home by a single from Joey Bossinas (Ossining, NY), giving the Bulldogs an early 3–0 lead. After the Pilgrims notched their first run in the fourth, the Bulldogs responded again. Tyler Giambra (Prospect, CT) recorded an RBI single, allowing Luke Fahey (Glastonbury, CT) to score.

The Bulldogs continued to rally in the fifth, scoring three runs to further their lead 7-2. Rylan Secovich (Southwick, MA) roped an RBI double, allowing two runs to come across the plate. Fahey then grounded out to shortstop, bringing Secovich home.

However, this would mark the near end of Dean's offensive efforts. Over the course of the next four innings, the Pilgrims would slowly claw back into the ballgame. With two runs in the fifth, two in the sixth, and one in the seventh, eighth, and ninth, New England College would tie the game at 8-8. This also included one final run from the Bulldogs off the bat of Kyler Lorenz (East Providence, RI). With the game knotted at eight after nine full innings, both the Bulldogs and Pilgrims would go into extras.

After a scoreless tenth and empty top half of the eleventh, New England College would get the final blow. A sacrifice flyout to center field would score the winning run, pushing the Pilgrims to victory by a score of 9-8.

Giambra would take the loss on the mound for Dean, now dropping back-to-back pitching performances on walkoff hits. Offensively, Lorenz would pave the way, going 3-4 with with an RBI and walk. Bossinas and Jadon Murakami (Aiea, HI) would each record two hits, and five additional Bulldogs recorded one hit each.

The Bulldogs will play their third straight game tomorrow night at 7:00PM, traveling to Lesley University for a non-conference matchup.
