New Haven, CT- The Dean College men's lacrosse bounced back in a standout 19-6 victory over Albertus Magnus College. The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) win puts Dean at 8-1 (2-1) on the season, while the Falcons drop to 4-5 (1-2).
The Bulldogs took control early, opening the scoring with an Alec Speirs (Old Lyme, CT) unassisted goal at 13:48 of the first period. Manny Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, MA) followed suit with a goal assisted by his brother, Diego Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, MA), just a minute later. Diego then added one of his own unassisted at 8:54. Dean continued to apply pressure, with Aiden Anthony (Stoneham MA) making it 4-0 shortly after. Albertus Magnus responded briefly with Jeremy Tremblay's goal at 6:44, but Dean quickly regained the momentum, with Jason Richard (Holden, MA) and M. Alvarez-Segee scored consecutively. This brought the score to 6-1 by the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter saw more of the same, with Dean scoring six unanswered goals. M. Alvarez-Segee opened the scoring with another assist from Diego at 13:27. The offensive barrage continued as Dean capitalized on Albertus Magnus' defensive lapses, including goals from Kevin Gardner (West Haven, CT), Aiden McCarthy (Whitman, MA), and Joseph Marra (North Branford, CT). The Bulldogs' unrelenting attack stretched their lead to 12-3 at halftime.
In the third period, Dean maintained their dominance, outscoring Albertus Magnus 5-1. Speirs netted his second goal at 12:13, followed by contributions from AJ Woodward (North Milford, CT), Gavin McCarthy (Whitman, MA), and Chris Carbone Jr. (Cranston, RI) as well. Albertus managed a single goal from Anthony Brikes at 5:45, but by then, the game was well beyond reach. The score was 17-4 heading into the final quarter.
The Bulldogs capped off their performance with two more goals in the fourth quarter. Gardner and Collin Murphy (Whitman, MA) both found the back of the net to extend the lead to 19-6. Albertus Magnus added a pair of late goals from Jeremy Tremblay and DaKari Coleman, but it was too little too late.Â
Dean's offensive efforts were led by the Segee brothers, who each scored five points in the contest. Speirs followed closely behind with two points on goals. To cap off an impressive afternoon, 16 different players each scored a point for the Bulldogs. Elijah Beland (Augusta, ME) got his eighth win of the season in-goal, while Dane Duarte (Londonderry, NH), David MacNeil (Whitman, MA), and Colby Vaccaro (Beverly, MA) also saw minutes in-goal.
The Bulldogs return home this Saturday, April 5th, for another GNAC contest with Rivier University at 12:00PM. This Saturday's game is also Dean's Senior Day, with festivities beginning at 11:45AM ET.
