Franklin, MA- The Dean College baseball team rallied back and ended victorious in their Tuesday match versus Rivier University. After costly errors from the Raiders, the Bulldogs took the game by a score of 9-5. Dean now improves to 6-13 (3-2) on the year, while the Raiders move to 6-12 (1-4).
The opening four innings saw Rivier pull ahead early. Scores in both the first and fourth innings pushed the Raiders in front, combined with four total hits. Dean's starting pitcher
Domenic Brazeau (Warwick, RI) held his own, pitching a solid five innings of work, allowing three earned runs on seven hits and two strikeouts. The Bulldogs got their first run of the game in the fifth inning. Center fielder
Colin Favata (Syosset, NY) produced an RBI single, allowing
Kyler Lorenz (East Providence, RI) to score.
However, the Raiders quickly bounced back, scoring two more runs to increase their lead to 4-1. Dean would get another run back in the sixth, but it wouldn't be until the final three innings where the Bulldogs saw their explosion.
Beginning in the seventh, Dean scored three impressive runs. They first scored on a failed pickoff attempt at second base, allowing Lorenz to swiftly make it home. Shortly after,
Nick Amendolara (Bayville, NY) drove in another RBI single, tying the game at four. In the eighth, Dean scored a total of four runs, capitalized on several key errors by the Raiders' defense. Two errors allowed runs to score,
Jadon Murakami (Aiea, HI) punched a sacrifice flyout, and
Joey Bossinas (Ossining, NY) brought in another with an RBI single.
Dean's relief staff was also able to slam the door on the Raiders' responses.
Owen Critchley (Dayton, ME) got the win on the mound (2-1), tossing two innings, allowing zero runs on three strikeouts.
Kiefer Culligan closed the game, pitching the final two innings and allowing just one run on two hits and the game-ending strikeout.
Offensively,
Luke Fahey (Glastonbury, CT) was the star of the show for Dean. The junior went 3-4 at the plate with an RBI and run scored. Amendolara finished the day with two hits, while five other Bulldogs finished with one hit each.
The Bulldogs will travel on the road tomorrow afternoon, playing Nichols College in a 3:30PM start time.
