The Dean College baseball team dominated in their complete game victory versus Curry College, winning a final score of 8-3. Dean now moves to 5-13 (2-2) on the season, while the Colonels move to 5-11 (1-3).
The Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. Jordan Almendarez (Las Vegas, NV)Â delivered a clutch, two-RBI single that scored Nick Amendolara (Bayville, NY) and Jadon Murakami (Aiea, HI). Almendarez then crossed the plate himself on a hit-by-pitch situation, pushing the Bulldogs' lead to 3-1. Dean continued its offensive surge in the second inning. Nathan Suncar (Boston, MA) walked, bringing in an unearned run, and Owen Critchley (Dayton, ME) followed with a single that scored Murakami, extending the Bulldogs' lead to 5-1.
In the third inning, Dean added two more runs to further solidify their advantage. Amendolara's walk pushed Colin Favata (Syosset, NY) across the plate, and Suncar's sacrifice fly drove in Kyler Lorenz (East Providence, RI), making it 7-1. Curry College was held scoreless in the second, third, fourth, and fifth innings. Dean's starting pitcher, Nick Swain (South Portland, ME), kept the pressure on. Swain ended with the win, tossing six innings, allowing just one run on four hits and five strikeouts. In the fourth, Favata singled to score Luke Fahey (Glastonbury, CT), and Dean's lead reached 8-1. While the Bulldogs' offense slowed down in the later innings, the game was already well in-hand.
Curry College tried to mount a comeback in the seventh and eighth innings. In the seventh, a sacrifice fly by Boostrom II brought home Eric Leonard to make it 8-2. Then, in the eighth, Leonard doubled to score Bobby Marshall, cutting the Bulldogs' lead to 8-3. However, Dean's defense and pitching were strong enough to hold Curry off from further rallying. Tyler Giambra (Propect, CT) and Danny Goyette (Holliston, MA) finished the job on the mound for Dean.
Murakami led Dean's efforts offensively, fnishing the day 3-5 with two runs scored. Four additional players earned two hits each for the Bulldogs (Almendarez, Amendolara, Fahey, Favata). Lorenz and Critchley also added one hit each.
The Bulldogs will look to add to their momentum this Tuesday, April 1st, in a 3:30PM road trip to Rivier University.Â
