Franklin, MA- The Dean College baseball team split their Friday, Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) series with the Anna Maria College AmCats. The Bulldogs took the floor in game one by a score of 13-5, but lost 14-8 in game two. Dean now improves to 4-13 (2-2) on the year, while Anna Maria moves to 12-9 (1-4).
Game One: Dean College 13, Anna Maria College 5
Game open started and ended by the Bulldogs. Dean struck first in the opening inning, when a wild pitch allowed
Rylan Secovich (Southwick, MA) to score, followed by a single from
Joey Bossinas (Ossining, NY) that brought in
Jadon Murakami (Aiea, HI). Anna Maria initially answered back in the second inning with a pair of runs, but Dean responded in kind. In the bottom of the second, Secovich and
Jordan Almendarez (Las Vegas, NV)Â each drove in runs. By the third inning, Dean took control with a massive 6-run surge. Secovich's 3-RBI double highlighted the rally, and Nick Suncar's (Boston, MA) hit by pitch added another to the tally, bringing the score to 8-3.
Dean continued to apply pressure with runs in the fourth and fifth innings, ultimately securing a 13-5 victory. Philip Curran (West Springfield, MA) earned his second win of the season with a solid pitching performance. Curran tossed five innings, allowing one hit, two earned runs, and five strikeouts. The Bulldogs' offense was led by Secovich, who finished with 4 RBIs, while Bossinas and Almendarez each contributed with key hits. Dean secured their second conference win of the season on a complete surge, finishing with 13 runs on 9 hits and capitalizing on three Anna Maria errors.
Game Two: Anna Maria College 14, Dean College 8
After an explosive second and fourth inning, which saw a combined 15 runs and 13 hits, the Bulldogs ultimately fell shy by a final score of 14-8. In a 4-0 second inning by the AmCats, the Bulldogs mounted a major comeback in the bottom half. Secovich opened with a 2-RBI single, followed by a walk from Nick Amendolara (Bayville, NY), and key hits from Colin Favata (Syosset, NY) and Almendarez. This sequence brought a total of seven runs across the plate and gave Dean a 7-4 lead. However, the Bulldogs couldn't sustain the momentum. Anna Maria responded with five runs in the top of the fourth inning, regaining control at 9-7. Despite a late rally by Dean, with an RBI single in the seventh, Anna Maria continued to apply pressure, closing out the game with three more runs in the top of the ninth.
Despite the loss, several Bulldogs had standout performances. Secovich and Almendarez both drove in multiple runs, while Favata's timely double in the second inning helped fuel the rally. Dean's pitching struggled to contain Anna Maria's offense, with Stephen Wyszynski (Springfield, MA) taking the loss after allowing multiple runs in the pivotal fourth inning. JR Salvadore (Barre, MA) and Spencer Lichstrahl (Fort Lauderdale, FL) also saw action for Dean's pitching staff.
Dean is back home this Sunday at 12:00PM, hosting Curry College in a non-conference contest.
