Newton, MA- The Dean College men's volleyball lost both contests in their tri-match at #20 Lasell University. The tesm fell in match one versus the Lasers by a score of 0-3, and lost the second match to Rivier University 0-3. With both matches being in-conference, Dean now moves to 2-18 (0-9) on the year.
Match One: #20 Lasell University 3, Dean College 0Â (19-25, 23-25, 10-25)
The Bulldogs faced a tough challenge against #20 Lasell University, but ultimately fell in three straight sets. The Bulldogs put up a strong fight in the opening set, but Lasell quickly established control with an early lead.
Noah Allan (Windham, NH) and
Arthur Felicio (Saugus, Brazil) were key contributors offensively for Dean, with Allan leading the team with 9 kills and Felicio adding 5.
Hunter Armitage (Westerly, RI) orchestrated the offense with 12 assists, while also contributing defensively with 5 digs and 2 blocks. Despite their efforts, the Bulldogs couldn't break through Lasell's defense, losing the first set 19-25.
In the second set, Dean continued to battle, pushing Lasell to a narrow 23-25 finish. Allan and Felicio combined for several key plays, keeping the match within reach. Armitage also showed his all-around game, making a solid impact with both assists and digs. However, Lasell's offense, led by Theo Zaharewicz with 14 kills, was too much for the Bulldogs to overcome. The third set saw Lasell pull away decisively, dominating the final frame with a 10-25 scoreline
Match Two: Rivier University 3, Dean College 0Â (19-25, 9-25, 13-25)
Dean once again struggled throughout their second match, falling in three total sets. In the first set, Dean couldn't keep pace with Rivier's offensive surge, as Allan and Felicio led the charge for the Bulldogs with 6 and 5 kills, respectively. Armitage contributed with 12 assists and 6 digs, but Rivier's strong attack proved too much. Despite moments of solid defense, including 3 blocks from
Will Wheatley (Dover, NH), Dean couldn't overcome the powerful Rivier offense.
The second set saw Dean struggle further. Rivier capitalized, with Matthew McCloskey and Cody Fitzpatrick adding 8 kills each to extend the lead. The Bulldogs fought back in the third set, but Rivier remained dominant with 13 kills and a hitting percentage of .478. Dean's effort was led by Felicio with 6 kills, and Mason Rua (Sao Pedro Du Sol, Portugal) provided solid defense with 10 digs. In the end, Rivier's efficient offense, combined with solid serving and blocking, led them to a decisive 3-0 victory.
Dean will continue their road trip on Wednesday, March 26th, in a 7:00PM match with Fisher College.Â
