Dean finished the day with a split against the Falcons, falling 3-1 in game two. The Bulldogs now move to 3-10 (1-0) on the season.
Game One: Dean College 11, Albertus Magnus College 2
In the series opener, the Bulldogs exploded offensively. After being shut out through the first four innings, Dean erupted for five runs in the fifth.
Nick Amendolara (Bayville, NY) drove in a run with a walk, and an error by Albertus Magnus helped Dean push across three more unearned runs. The Bulldogs capped off the inning with a wild pitch that allowed a run to score, taking a commanding 5-1 lead.
Dean continued to build on their momentum in the seventh and eighth innings. Gavin Goss (Glenwood Landing, NY) doubled in two runs, and later, Joey Bossinas (Ossining, NY) and Colin Favata (Syosset, NY) each added RBIs with doubles and a single. Nate Suncar (Boston, MA) also contributed with a solo homer in the eighth, increasing the lead to 10-1. Albertus Magnus managed just one run in the bottom of the eighth on a sacrifice fly, but the Bulldogs sealed the win with a final tally of 11-2. Philip Curran (West Springfield, MA) earned the win on the mound for Dean, improving to 1-0.
Game Two: Albertus Magnus 3, Dean College 1
Dean struck first in the opening inning when Luke Fahey (Glastonbury, CT) hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Kyler Lorenz (East Providence, RI) to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. However, the offense struggled to capitalize on any additional opportunities, leaving runners stranded throughout the game. Despite a solid start, the Bulldogs couldn't add to their tally, while Albertus Magnus slowly clawed their way back.
Albertus Magnus responded in the third inning when Elijah Spataj doubled, bringing in King Rivera to tie the game at 1-1. They would go on to take the lead in the fifth inning with another Spataj double, and a costly error in the sixth allowed a third run to score. Dean couldn't muster a comeback, managing just three hits in the second game. With strong pitching from Albertus Magnus, the Bulldogs were unable to break through, resulting in a 3-1 loss to end the double-header.
The Bulldogs return home tomorrow to host Saint Joseph's College of Maine for a 1:00PM start.
