Franklin, MA- The Dean College men's volleyball team was swept in their Thursday match with #11 Wentworth Institute of Technology by a final score of 0-3. Dean now falls to 2-16 (0-7) on the season, while the Leopards continue their impressive 19-4 (9-0) run.
The Bulldogs came out fighting in the first set, with Arthur Felicio (Saugus, Brazil) leading the charge early on. Felicio notched several kills, keeping Dean within striking distance. However, despite his efforts, the Wentworth defense stifled their momentum, and the Bulldogs were unable to overcome the powerful offensive push from the Leopards, losing the first set 25-16.
In the second set, Dean had difficulty gaining traction. Felicio continued to be a bright spot on the attack, contributing a few more kills, but the Wentworth defense forced Dean into errors. Jerney Price (San Antonio, TX) added a set of kills, but Dean's attack was not enough to compete with Wentworth's strong offensive output. The Bulldogs struggled with service errors and hitting mistakes, and the set quickly got away from them, ending 25-10 in Wentworth's favor.
The third set was much of the same, with Dean's offense continuing to be hindered by Wentworth's solid defense. Despite several hustle plays from Mason Rua (Sao Pedro Du Sol, Portugal), who contributed a team-high eight digs, Dean couldn't find the rhythm they needed to claw their way back into the match. Nunu Coward-Jackson (Fresno, CA) added a block in the set, but it wasn't enough to slow down Wentworth's relentless attack. Will Wheatley (Dover, NH) also added his first career kill at the NCAA level. Dean fought hard, but Wentworth took control and finished the set 25-12, securing the sweep.
Throughout the match, Hunter Armitage (Westerly, RI) provided steady play-making with 13 assists. Felicio led the Bulldogs with six total kills, while Price finished the day with four. Hayson Shing (Hong Kong) also ended the day with a service ace.
Dean will now hit the road for a Saturday tri-match, hosted by Lasell University. Dean will play the Lasers at 11AM, followed by a 1PM match with Rivier University.
