Franklin, MA- Senior
Natalie Peterson (Hudson, MA) netted her 100th career goal as the Dean College women's lacrosse team defeated UMaine Farmington 13-11 on Saturday. Dean now moves to 2-1 (0-0) on the year, while the Beavers move to 0-1 (0-0).
The Bulldogs established an early lead, with Peterson scoring unassisted just 41 seconds into the game. Shortly after, Emma Mock (Tunkhannock, PA) added another unassisted goal, putting Dean up 2-0. Peterson continued her offensive dominance, netting two more goals in the first quarter, complemented by scores from Caroline Ramsey (Shreveport, LA) and Haley Gaunt (Johnston, RI), resulting in a 7-3 advantage by the end of the period.
The second quarter saw a slowdown in scoring for the Bulldogs, with only one goal from Peterson, assisted by Gaunt. Despite this, Dean maintained a lead, heading into halftime with an 8-5 advantage. In the third quarter, Gaunt and Mock each added to the scoreboard, with Gaunt's goal assisted by Peterson, extending Dean's lead to 11-7.
The final quarter featured a surge from the University of Maine-Farmington, narrowing the gap to 12-10. However, Peterson sealed the victory for Dean with her 100th goal of her career, assisted by Mock, bringing the final score to 13-11. Throughout the match, Dean's defense, led by goalkeeper Allie Stockwell (Burrillville, RI), played a crucial role in maintaining the lead, especially during the opponent's late-game push.
Peterson led the Bulldogs with five goals, ten shots, and three ground balls. Gaunt finished second in scoring with three goals and 12 shots on goal. Mock ended with two goals, and three Bulldogs finished with one goal each. Stockwell ended the game 9/20 in goal.
This win improves Dean's record to 2-1 for the season. The Bulldogs will look to continue their momentum in their upcoming game against UMass Boston on March 4th at Grant Field.
