Women's Lacrosse Slips in Non-Conference Game with Beacons, 13-7

Franklin, MA- The Dean College women's lacrosse team fell short in their non-conference matchup with UMass Boston Tuesday, 13-7. Dean now moves to 2-2 (0-0) on the season, while the Beacons move to 2-0 (0-0).

The Bulldogs started strong, with junior midfielder Haley Gaunt (Johnston, RI) scoring an unassisted goal just over a minute into the game. UMass Boston responded with two quick goals, but captain Nina Medeiros (Fairhaven, MA) leveled the score at 2-2 with a precise shot. The first quarter ended with UMass Boston leading 5-3.

In the second quarter, Dean's offense struggled against UMass Boston's defense, managing only one goal from senior attacker Natalie Peterson (Hudson, MA). Despite efforts from Gaunt and Medeiros, the Bulldogs entered halftime trailing 8-4.

After the break, Dean showed resilience. Gaunt completed her hat trick with two goals in the third quarter, narrowing the deficit to 9-6. Medeiros also made history, securing her second goal of the game and the 100th point of her career. However, UMass Boston controlled the final quarter, outscoring Dean 4-1, with junior Emma Mock (Tunkhannock, PA) scoring Dean's final goal.

Gaunt led Dean's scoring efforts with three goals and five total shots (three shots on goal). Medeiros followed suit with two goals and three shots on goal. Peterson and Mock each scored one goal in the contest. Goalkeeper Allie Stockwell (Burrillville, RI) finished the day with eight saves.

Dean returns to Grant Field on Saturday at noon, taking on Norwich University in their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest of the season.
