Boston, MA- The Dean College men's volleyball team could not come away with a win during their tri-match at #11 Wentworth, dropping their first match 3-0 and their second 3-1 versus Elms College. Dean now moves to 2-14 (0-5) on the season.
Match One: #11 Wentworth 3, Dean College 0
The Bulldogs battled hard against the ranked Leopards, but ultimately fell in three sets, 25-18, 25-15, 25-17. The Bulldogs struggled to keep up with Wentworth's powerful offense, led by Ryan Roller, who racked up 13 kills in the match. Dean's offense was highlighted by
Arthur Felicio (Saugus, Brazil), who recorded eight kills, and
Ayden Rogers (Tewsbury, MA), who added six. Despite their strong individual performances, the Bulldogs had trouble breaking through Wentworth's defense, which tallied five blocks and 12 service aces.
Dean's overall attack was solid, finishing with 22 kills and a .170 hitting percentage, but Wentworth's offensive efficiency outshone the Bulldogs. Hunter Armitage (Westerly, RI) contributed significantly with 20 assists, helping keep the offense flowing, while Mason Rua (Sao Paulo Du Sol, Portugal) led the team in digs with seven. However, the Bulldogs were unable to match Wentworth's offensive firepower, as they registered 40 kills and hit a .485 percentage. Despite the loss, Dean showed resilience throughout the match, keeping the sets competitive before Wentworth eventually sealed the victory.
Match Two: Elms College 3, Dean College 1
Dean stayed strong against Elms in match two, taking the second set. However, they fell in the end by a final score of 3-1 (19-25, 25-23, 17-25, 17-25). The Bulldogs showed resilience in the second set, coming back from an early deficit to win 25-23. Felicio led the attack for Dean with eight kills, while
Noah Allan (Windham, NH) and
Jerney Price (San Antonio, TX) added seven and six kills, respectively. Armitage played a key role in setting up the offense, finishing with 26 assists, while Rua contributed both defensively and offensively with eight digs and three assists.
Despite their strong play in the second set, Dean struggled to maintain momentum in the following sets. Elms College's Nicholas Uschmann was a dominant force with 22 kills, helping Elms secure the victory. Dean's defense, led by Rua with eight digs, kept them competitive, but the Bulldogs could not find enough consistency in their offense, hitting just .175 for the match compared to Elms' .339. Dean also struggled with errors, registering 17 in total, which hindered their chances.
The Bulldogs return home this Tuesday at 6:00PM, hosting Emerson College inside of Pieri Gymnasium.
