Fort Myers 2025: Baseball Grabs First Win of Season in Thursday Slate of Games

Fort Myers, FL- The Dean College baseball team earned their first win of the season during a double-header split, taking down Wisconsin Lutheran College 10-7. The team later fell to Alfred State College 4-3. The Bulldogs now hold a 1-5 record through the season's opening six games.

Game One: Dean College 10, Wisconsin Lutheran College 7
In their Fort Myers opener, the Bulldogs delivered an impressive offensive performance, seeing key contributions from several players. The first inning opened with an offensive stampede, with runs driven in by Rylan Secovich (Southwick, MA) and Joey Bossinas (Ossining, NY). However, it was their explosive 6-run fourth inning that put the game out of reach. In that frame, Luke Fahey (Glastonbury, CT), Kyler Lorenz (East Providence, RI), and Secovich each had RBIs, helping to push the Bulldogs ahead, 6-4.

Dean's pitching staff also played a crucial role in securing the win. Owen Critchley (Dayton, ME) earned the win on five innings pitched and just two earned runs. Kiefer Culligan (South Windsor, CT) recorded the save in the final inning of the game. Despite a late surge from Wisconsin Lutheran, which included a 4-RBI homer from Rintelman in the third, Dean's defense held firm, with only one run allowed in the last six innings.

Game Two: Alfred State College 4, Dean College 3
In game two against Alfred State, Dean fought hard but ultimately fell short, losing 4-3. The Bulldogs got off to a strong start with a two-run rally in the first inning. Jordan Almendarez (Las Vegas, NV) roped a double, bringing in both Bossinas and Tyler Giambra (Prospect, CT), giving Dean a 2-0 lead. However, Alfred State quickly responded with a run in the second inning, and then capitalized on a three-run play in the third. Despite a solid performance, Dean struggled to generate further offense, with only one more run coming in the eighth inning from RBI single by Nick Amendolara (Bayville, NY), which scored Lorenz.

Dean's pitchers worked hard to keep the game within reach, but the Bulldogs couldn't recover from the early deficit. Joshua Cavas (McKinney, TX) got the ball to the start the game, tossing two innings, allowing one earned run and just two hits. Scott Joseph (Fairhaven, MA) took the loss, allowing three earned runs and five hits in just one inning of work. Spencer Lichstrahl (Fort Lauderdale, FL) impressed in his home state, throwing four innings, striking out five, and allowing just one hit. JR Salvadore (Barre, MA) finished the game with two innings of work.

The Bulldogs continue in their tournament efforts tomorrow, playing Skidmore College at 9AM. For more information on the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, visit here.
