Fort Myers, FL- The Dean College baseball team fell short in their Thursday morning game against Skidmore College by a final score of 17-3. The Bulldogs now hold a 1-2 record at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic, and a 1-6 overall record on the season.
The Bulldogs were unable to put up any runs in the first three innings, as Skidmore jumped out to an early lead with a five-run first inning. Despite a brief rally in the fourth inning, where Nick Amendolara (Bayville, NY) singled up the middle to drive in two runs. Kyler Lorenz (East Providence, RI) finished the morning with a two-hit performance, leading the Bulldogs in hits. Amendolara, Gavin Goss (Glenwood Landing, NY), and Rylan Secovich (Southwick, MA) each recorded a hit.Â
On the mound, Dean's starter Domenic Brazeau (Warwick, RI / 0-2) took the loss after struggling through five innings, giving up 13 hits and 9 earned runs. Skidmore's offensive onslaught included multiple doubles and singles, with standout performances from players like Ewen Donald, who contributed several RBIs, including a key two-run single in the sixth inning that extended the lead further.
Defensively, Dean couldn't contain Skidmore's steady pressure. Even though the Bulldogs managed to cut into the deficit, their offensive efforts were stymied by the strong pitching from Skidmore's Ethan Barnett (1-0). Barnett earned the win after limiting Dean to just five hits and no runs beyond the fourth inning.Â
Dean will play in their final two games of the tournament tomorrow, playing Haverford College at 9:00AM and Otterbein University at 12:00PM. For more information on the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, visit here.
