Franklin, MA- The Dean College men's lacrosse team throttled to a Saturday victory over Manhattanville University by a final score of 15-7. Dean now moves to 3-0 (1-0) on the year, while Manhattanville moves to 1-1 (0-0).
The Bulldogs set the tone early, establishing a 5-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. Sophomore midfielder Aiden Anthony (Stoneham, MA) initiated the scoring less than a minute into the game, followed by senior attacker Jason Richard (Holden, MA) capitalizing on an assist from Diego Alvarez-Segee (Saugus, MA). The Alvarez-Segee brothers, Diego and Manny (Saugus, MA), each contributed goals, with junior midfielder Alec Speirs (Old Lyme, CT) adding another to round out the dominant opening period.
Dean maintained their offensive momentum in the second quarter, with Diego Alvarez-Segee completing his hat trick before halftime. The Bulldogs' defense remained resolute, limiting the Valiants to two goals in the period, resulting in an 8-2 lead at the break. Goalkeeper Elijah Beland (Augusta, ME) played a pivotal role, making several key saves to thwart Manhattanville's attempts to close the gap.
The third quarter saw a balanced exchange, with both teams netting three goals each. Manny Alvarez-Segee showcased his offensive prowess, adding two more goals to his tally. Despite Manhattanville's efforts, Dean's defense, anchored by Beland and a cohesive defensive unit, effectively contained the Valiants' attack, preserving an 11-5 advantage heading into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs continued their dominance, outscoring Manhattanville 4-2. Anthony and Speirs each found the back of the net, while Manny Alvarez-Segee capped off his stellar performance with his fourth goal of the game. The comprehensive team effort secured Dean's third consecutive victory, elevating their record to 3-0 for the season.
Anthony, Manny Alvarez-Segee, and Diego Alvarez-Segee all led Dean's scoring with four goals each. Speirs notched two goals and Richard netted one. Josh Hackett (Orange, CT) finished 13-23 in faceoffs while Shawn Beebe (Groton, CT) ended 1-3.
The Bulldogs will aim to maintain their unbeaten streak as they prepare to face Thomas College in their next matchup on March 5th.
