Milton, MA- The Dean College women lacrosse team earned their first win of the season today, defeating Curry College by a final score of 14-8. Dean advances to 1-1 (0-0) on the year, while Curry moves to 0-1 (0-0).
The Bulldogs set the tempo early, with
Nina Medeiros (Fairhaven, MA) striking just 50 seconds into the game to give Dean the lead.
Natalie Peterson (Hudson, MA) followed with back-to-back goals, the first coming off a well-placed assist from
Emma Mock (Tunkhannock, PA).
Haley Gaunt (Johnston, RI) added to the offensive surge, dodging past defenders to find the net and extend the Bulldogs' lead to 5-2 by the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter, Medeiros struck again off a free-position shot, while Peterson completed her hat trick with a powerful drive through the middle.
Curry attempted to close the gap in the third quarter, but
Allie Stockwell (Burrillville, RI) came up with key saves, and the Bulldogs responded with quick transition goals from
Alisha Caldeira (West Bridgewater, MA) and Gaunt. Dean sealed the game in the fourth, with Peterson netting her fourth of the day and Gaunt firing home the final goal to cap off a dominant performance.
Both Peterson and Gaunt led Dean in goals with four each. Peterson also led the Bulldogs in assists (two). Mock and Medeiros netted two goals apiece, while Caldeira and
Caroline Ramsey (Shreveport, LA) each knotted one goal.
Allie Stockwell finished the game making seven saves of the fifteen shots she faced.Â
Dean returns to play this Saturday at 3:00PM, hosting the University of Maine, Farmington on Grant Field.Â
