Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Drops War of Attrition With Suffolk, 12-8

Franklin, MA- The Dean College women's lacrosse team put up a valiant effort, but ultimately fell short in their season opener to Suffolk University 12-8. Dean moves to 0-1 (0-0) to start the year, while Suffolk grabs their first win in program history (1-0, 0-0).

The Bulldogs came out firing, taking control early with a 3-1 lead in the first quarter. Natalie Peterson (Hudson, MA) got things started with an unassisted goal, and Haley Gaunt (Johnston, RI) followed with back-to-back scores, one assisted by Emma Mock (Tunkhannock, PA). Dean's defense also held strong in the opening period, limiting Suffolk's offensive chances and forcing turnovers to maintain their early advantage.

As the game progressed, Suffolk responded with an offensive push in the second quarter, but the Bulldogs continued to battle. Peterson added another goal, while Alisha Caldeira (West Bridgewater, MA) and Nina Medeiros (Fairhaven, MA) each found the back of the net to keep Dean in the game. Despite their efforts, Suffolk managed to tie things up by halftime at 6-6. Goalkeeper Sophia Reynolds made several key saves to prevent the Rams from pulling away, but the Bulldogs faced increasing pressure from Suffolk's attack.

In the second half, Dean fought to regain the lead, with Gaunt completing her hat trick and Peterson netting her third goal of the game. However, Suffolk's offense proved difficult to contain, as they went on a key scoring run that put the Bulldogs on the defensive. Despite continued hustle and strong midfield play, Dean struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities in the final quarter. The Rams managed to hold off the Bulldogs' late push, securing the win with a few final goals in the closing minutes.

Gaunt and Peterson led the way with three goals each, while Medeiros and Caldeira each knotted a goal. Peterson and Gaunt also finished the night with seven shots on goal each. Medeiros and Mock each recorded an assist. Stockwell finished the day 10 for 12 in goal as well.

The Bulldogs are back in action Wednesday, traveling to Curry College for another non-conference showdown at 4:00PM.
