Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Falls Short in Senior Day Showdown, 96-45

Franklin, MA- The Dean College women's basketball team fell short versus Johnson & Wales University, 96-45, in a special senior night showdown inside Pieri Gymnasium. Dean now moves to 6-18 (1-11) while the Wildcats advance to 21-2 (12-1).

Before the game, the Dean College Department of Athletics and Recreation recognized the three seniors from this year's women's basketball roster. Seniors Maranda Cournoyer (Millville, MA), Tori Viau (Johnston, RI), and Alexandria Paquet (Santa Maria, CA) were honored at half court and presented with their commemorative jerseys, recognizing their hard work and dedication to the women's basketball team.

The first quarter opened with a flurry of offensive exchanges. Azaria Landry (Petersburg, VA) posted a deep three-pointer, with Johnson & Wales quickly returning the favor. Ninety seconds later, Landry knocked down another three point shot, securing Dean's first six points of the game. In fact, Landry managed to produce all of Dean's first eight points by herself. However, the Wildcats ended the quarter on a 8-0 run, leading Dean 18-10 going into the second.

In the second quarter, both teams once again exchanged efforts on offense. Landry opened the scoring with another three-point conversion, while Paquet followed with points at the free throw line. The Bulldogs supplemented their scoring with strong defense, securing multiple defensive rebounds on the other side of the court. However, turnovers proved costly in the first half for Dean. Missed opportunities allowed Johnson & Wales to post 45 points in the first half and lead by 19.

Third quarter action saw the Bulldogs get off to a slower start. The Wildcats struck first, followed by quick transitions by the Bulldogs. Kendrah Doane (New Salem, MA) was able to find space in the paint on numerous occasions, but was unable to convert for points. Dean got their first points in the second half at 4:15, with Landry securing a layup and drawing the foul. After another successful layup by Landry, Dean trailed Johnson & Wales 66-30 at the end of three.

After a full four quarters of action, Dean fell short to the Wildcats by a final score of 96-45.

Landry produced the bulk of Dean's points, scoring 23 throughout the game with three rebounds and one steal. Paquet followed behind her with nine points, including multiple three-point plays. Viau posted seven points, including a three-pointer in the fourth quarter.

Dean has officially concluded their home calendar and will play their season finale on Saturday at Saint Joseph's College of Maine. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00PM.
