Franklin, MA- The Dean College women's basketball team could not convert in their road match versus Rivier University, losing 95-62. Dean now moves to 6-17 (1-10) on the year, while Rivier advances to 14-10 (10-3).
The Dean College Bulldogs came out with energy, looking to push the tempo early against Rivier.
Azaria Landry (Petersburg, VA) got the offense going with a quick three-pointer in the opening minutes, followed by a strong drive to the basket to give Dean an early spark. Senior
Alexandria Paquet (Santa Maria, CA) kept the momentum going, hitting back-to-back jumpers to keep the Bulldogs within striking distance. Midway through the first half,
Kendrah Doane (New Salem, MA) found her rhythm, converting a tough and-one layup and sinking a deep shot from beyond the arc. Despite Dean's offensive efforts, Rivier responded with a scoring surge to take a commanding lead into halftime.
The Bulldogs came out of halftime determined to cut into Rivier's lead, with Landry setting the tone by draining a three-pointer on the first possession of the second half. Paquet followed up with a mid-range jumper, and Doane capitalized on a defensive steal, racing down the court for an easy layup. Dean continued to push the tempo, with Landry finishing a tough and-one play after slicing through the defense. Midway through the half, Paquet kept the Bulldogs in the fight with another deep three, but Rivier responded with a scoring run of their own. Despite Dean's efforts, Rivier maintained control with strong rebounding and timely shot-making. In the closing minutes, Doane knocked down a contested jumper and Landry added another fast-break bucket, but the Bulldogs couldn't close the gap as Rivier sealed the win at the free-throw line.
Despite the loss, the Bulldogs had notable individual performances. Paquet contributed 21 points, showcasing her scoring ability. Landry added 22 points, leading the team in scoring, while Doane chipped in 16 points, providing additional offensive support.
Dean is back in action on Tuesday night at 5:00PM, hosting Johnson & Wales University. Tuesday is also Senior Night for the Bulldogs.
