Women's Basketball Sails Past Mitchell College, 69-57

Franklin, MA- The Dean College women's basketball team sailed to a dominant victory over Mitchell College 69-57 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action. Dean now improves to 6-16 (1-9), while Mitchell sinks to 2-15 (0-11).

The first quarter opened in a tight battle, with two lead changes and three occasions of a tie. Throughout all of it, the Bulldogs maintained sole possession of the momentum. Senior Alexandria Paquet (Santa Maria, CA) secured multiple baskets within the paint, while Kendroah Doane (New Salem, MA) also scored baskets of her own. Doane also played a pivotal role in establishing Dean's presence on defense. However, after a view costly turnovers, the Bulldogs trailed the Mariners 18-15 after 10 minutes of action.

Within the second quarter, the Bulldogs re-established their ground. Guard Azaria Landry (Petersburg, VA) went back-to-back from the field, giving the Bulldogs a two-point lead over the Mariners. Paquet then solidified the offensive attack, scoring two consecutive three-point baskets. After another basket by Landry, Dean held an 11-point lead over Mitchell with six minutes left in the half. The final minutes were concluded with a slick cut and score by Maranda Cournoyer (Millville, MA) and a three-point play by Doane. The Bulldogs led Mitchell 42-30 going into the locker room.

The second half opened with a steal-and-score from Cournoyer, followed by a three-point bucket from Doane. Several plays later, Tori Viau (Johnston, RI) scored off a give-and-go pass from Landry. The passing success continued for Dean throughout the quarter, eventually turning into drawn fouls. Jordan Ellis (Bridgeport, CT) closed the quarter with another steal-and-score., pushing the score even further.

Dean's fourth quarter action kicked off with a three-pointer from Landry and a continued effort on defense. Ellis drew an offensive foul, giving Dean the ball and allowing Doane to score from long range. Dean would see their largest lead of the night here, going up 64-44 with under six minutes left. The Bulldogs would go-on to win the game by a final score of 69-57.

Landry led the Bulldogs with a season-high 22 points. Paquet posted 21 total points, along with six assists and nine rebounds. Doane also ied her season-high points mark at 16. As a team, the Bulldogs shot nearly 40 percent from the field and over 45 percent from three. This was also Dean's first win in program history within the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. 

The Bulldogs are back in action this Saturday at 2:00PM, traveling to Rivier University to close-out their road calendar.
