-The Bulldogs now advance to their first-ever NCAA Tournament Appearance. Their opponent will be announced during the NCAA Division III Selection Show tomorrow night at 9PM EST.
How it Happened:
-The Bulldogs quickly went on the attack in the first quarter. Yazzetti would grab a pass from midfield and charge the box. However, her shot would be saved by goalkeeper Addy Araneo.
-Shortly after, Colby-Sawyer would get their chance on offense. After a penalty corner insert, both Brooke Farquhar and Aili Carney would take shots. Dean's Goalkeeper
Sara Gardner (Hampstead, MD) stood tall, making a pair of crucial saves.
-Dean found their footing again, producing three more shots. Then, after a scrum in the box, sophomore
Emma Gragen (Brattleboro, VT) buried a rebound to the back of the cage. Dean had the 1-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
-Just like the first, the Bulldogs would control the offensive pace of play. They would out-shoot the Chargers 7-2 in the second quarter.
-On another crash to the cage, the Bulldogs would strike again. This time, it would be Ramos scoring on her own rebound. Her initial shot was saved by Araneo, but on the kick-out, Ramos took possession and scored.
-At the end of the half, it was now 2-0 in favor of the number one seed.
-The tide began to shift in the third quarter in favor of the Chargers. They would make it a one-score game in the 39
th minute. Zoe Dries scored off a smooth feed from Jillian Fredette. With just over a quarter remaining, it was now 2-1.
-Dean would respond with a barrage of shots in the fourth quarter. This included four penalty corners and five shots in the first three minutes.
-At last, their efforts broke through. Yazzetti would dribble to the right wing of the zone, whistling a shot into the back left corner of the cage. Her marvelous effort gave Dean their needed insurance. They now led 3-1.
-The Chargers left everything on the field. In the final moments, they would pull Araneo, bringing an extra attacker to the field.
-Dean stood tall against the loaded offense. They prevented Colby-Sawyer from scoring again, sealing their historic championship with a final score of 3-1.
