Franklin, MA- The Dean College Women's Basketball Team fell in their Monday contest with UMaine Augusta by a final score of 66-78. With the loss, the Bulldogs drop to 0-2 (0-0 GNAC) to open the season, while the Moose improve to 2-2 (0-1).
How it Happened:
-While the Moose would open with the first points of the game, the Bulldogs quickly responded to the call.
Kendrah Doane (New Salem, MA) would drill a three-pointer, bringing the Bulldogs back within two.
-Dean would continue to keep the lead within three throughout the opening quarter.
Abigail Lacy (Arroyo Grande, CA) contributed from under the basket and beyond the arc.
Kenzie Sherburne (Durham, NY) would also score four points to end the quarter. At the end of one, the Moose held the lead 16-11.
-The Bulldogs would score five quick points in the second quarter.
Domineek Butler (San Bernadino, CA) would return a basket of her own, followed by anothrer three-pointer from Lacy. At the 8:18 mark, Dean officially tied the game with another strong layup from Butler.
-The Moose continued to fight back, but the Bulldogs remained vigilant. At the end of the half, it would be Dean in the lead by a score of 31-29.
-Lacy and
Azaria Landry (Lacey, WA) would kick-start the scoring in the third quarter.
-However, at the 1:58 mark in the third, the momentum began to shift. The Moose were able to tie the game at 46 and eventually take the lead with less than 90 seconds left in the third.
-UMA would take the lead and not look back throughout the fourth quarter. They would outscore the Bulldogs 25-18, and while Dean went on a 5-0 in the final seconds, it would not be enough. The Moose would take the win by a final score of 78-66.
