Franklin, MA- The Dean College Women's Basketball Team fell in their home opener in Nichols College on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 56-96. With the loss, Dean drops to 0-1 (0-0 GNAC) on the season, while the Bison improve to 1-0 (0-0 CNE).
How it Happened:
-Nichols would open the first quarter on the attack, going on a 16-2 run.
Azaria Landry (Lacey, WA) would grab Dean's first bucket of the game, followed by the first home score from
Natalie Kerstein (Middleboro, MA).
-Kerstein would lead the Bulldogs' first quarter efforts. She produced four points, along with one steal and three rebounds.
-Senior
Abigail Lacy (Arroyo Grande, CA) followed closely behind, scoring three points in the opening quarter.
-Nichols pulled away in the second quarter, scoring 29 points compared to the Bulldogs' 12.
-It would be Kerstein again leading the charge offensively, scoring four points and while shooting 40 percent from the field.
Jordan Ellis (Birdgeport, CT) would also have a productive second quarter, scoring four points.
-At the end of the first half, the Bulldogs trailed 52-21.
-The Bulldogs would rifle back in the second half, scoring 21 points. Landry would have seven of those points, converting on a third of her shots from beyond the arc. Both Lacy and Kerstein would follow with five points each. With just one quarter to-go, the Bulldogs now found themselves in striking distance.
-Lacy and Landry would go back to work for the Bulldogs, posting six points each. With two additional points from
Alana Zirlis (Clinton, CT), however, the Bulldogs would be stymied. Nichols would score 19 in the quarter to win by the final score of 95-56.
