Franklin, MA- The Dean College Women's Volleyball team was swept by Simmons University on Homecoming Friday inside of Pieri Gym. With the 0-3 loss, Dean now drops to 1-9 (0-4 GNAC) on the year, while the Sharks improve to 3-11 (2-2 GNAC).
How it Happened:
-The Bulldogs opened the match with two strong points. After a serve by
Julia Dommel (Beacon Falls, CT), the Sharks ran into an attack error. Shortly following,
Caitlin Cooper (Amherst, NH) would setup a perfect solo block, grabbing the point for Dean.
-Simmons would have a short rally to take the 302 lead, but it was quickly thwarted by a five-point run by the Bulldogs.
Chloe Demaio (Needham, MA) would get two kills.
Skylar Raskevitz (Easthampton, MA) would also record a service ace.
-However, it would be Simmons who would claw back and score 11 of the next 12 points. Three service aces, combined with a few Dean errors, gave them the confidence they were searching for. Dean would slowly claw back to make it a four point game, including kills from
Valeria Cabezas (Navarre, FL) and
Maddy Seymour (Simsbury, CT). Dean also managed a six point rally to bring it to this point. However, Simmons would clinch the first set with two errors on the Dean side.
-Cooper and Demaio would secure kills to open the second set. However, Simmons would continue to gain points in clumps from the Bulldogs. The Sharks would quickly secure set two by a score of 25-11.
-Both sides would trade blows to open the third set, with Cooper and
Nayah Alexis (Woonsocket, RI) leading the way. However, a seven-point rally by the Sharks would give them a sizable advantage. Down 20-10, Dean would band together and claw back. Seymour and Demaio earned kills, along with several errors on the Sharks' side. After earning seven of the next eight points, Dean would make it a four point match.Â
-However, Simmons would eventually finish the job, securing four straight points to win the set and match 3-0.
