Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Secures Number One Seed in Comeback Victory Over Simmons, 2-1

Boston, MA- The Dean College Field Hockey team defeated Simmons University in comeback fashion on Friday night by a final score of 2-1. With the win, the Bulldogs advance to 13-6 (9-1 GNAC), while the Sharks drop to 5-11 (5-5 GNAC).

Noteworthy Marks:
-With their win, Field Hockey becomes the first program in Dean Athletics history to secure the number one seed the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament.
-Field Hockey has also secured their program-best finish in the conference at 9-1. They have one more game to potentially finish with a 14-6 record overall.

How it Happened:
-In the opening quarter, it would be Simmons getting the first crack of scoring. From an initial penalty corner, Alex Wemple found the back of the cage off an assist from Ainslee Shrout. The Sharks now possessed the early 1-0 advantage.
-Simmons opened the second quarter with the momentum, but Dean would act quick and turn the tide. Sydnee Ramos (New Bedford, MA) would get a chance in front of the goal, saved by the keeper. This would eventually setup another Ramos shot minutes later and a penalty corner.
-From an insert by Shea Cassani (Belgrade, ME), the Bulldogs would work around the perimeter, eventually setting up Cassani for her second goal of the season. Ramos picked up the assist in the tying point.
-Halfway through the third quarter, Dean would fly back into attacking territory. Ramos and Emma Gragen (Brattleboro, VT) would have their shots saved by Haley Bright, but Emily Yazzetti (Mahopac, NY) would bury her 17th of the year to break the 1-1 tie. Dean now had the momentum and the lead heading into the final quarter.
-Simmons would have one penalty corner chance at the beginning of the quarter, but that would be all Dean allowed. The Bulldogs would record five more shots in the fourth quarter, eventually sealing their 2-1 victory.

Standouts:
-Cassani (Goal, 2 SOG)
-Yazzetti (Game-Winning Goal, SOG)
-Ramos (Assist, 6 Shots, 5 SOG)
-Sara Gardner (Hampstead, MD) (6 Saves, GA, 60:00 Minutes Played)

Next Up:
