Franklin, MA- The Dean College Women's Volleyball valiantly fought in a five set match with Mitchell College on Tuesday afternoon, but ultimately fell in five sets. With the loss, Dean drops to 2-15 (0-9 GNAC), while the Mariners improve to 9-10 overall (2-7 GNAC).
Noteworthy Marks:
-With her impressive 19-kill performance, sophomore
Maddy Seymour (Simsbury, CT) is one away from securing 300 career kills. She recently hit 200 earlier this season.
How it Happened:
-It would be Seymour securing the opening kill for the Bulldogs. In fact, Seymour would secure the first two kills and start the early momentum. Shortly after her,
Caitlin Cooper (Amherst, NH) would get a kill of her own, followed by two strong services from
Skylar Raskevitz (Easthampton, MA).Â
-The first set would be a grudge match, with both sides not seeing a lead surpass three points until the final moments. On the set's 28th point, Dean would begin to pull away. Raskevitz and
Maddie Bell (New Milford, CT) would have service aces, along with a kill from
Chloe Demaio (Needham, MA). The Bulldogs would eventually secure the first set by forcing more errors on the Mitchell side. With the 25-20 victory, Dean led 1-0 early.Â
-The Mariners would take set two by the same 25-20 score. Mitchell would secure the set by scoring 11 of the final 15 points. Kill-scorers in this set from Dean included Seymour,
Katie Jones (Franklin, MA), and
Valeria Cabezas (Nevarre, FL).Â
-Mitchell would continue their momentum in the opening parts of set three, scoring six of the first ten points. However, Dean would slowly claw their way back into the score. Jones and Seymour would lead the charge, followed by corner efforts from Cabezas. Eventually, Dean would rally to outscore Mitchell 13-4 and take the set by a close 25-23 margin.Â
-However, Mitchell would come right back to take set four by a score of 15-18. Dean fell behind early-on, ultimately forcing them to go to a decisive fifth set.
-Dean would open the fifth set with an impressive kill from Seymour. However, Mitchell would rally for a 5-1 scoring margin. Dean would mount a comeback, securing another kill and two service aces. They now trailed in the set by just three.
-Down by three, Dean rallied hard to continue their fight. However, Mitchell recorded a kill and forced a decisive error to win 15-10. They took the match by a final score of 3-2.
