Franklin, MA- The Dean College Women's Volleyball team rallied back from an 0-2 deficit to defeat Western New England University in five sets, 3-2. With the win, the Bulldogs get back on track and improve to 2-13 (0-7 GNAC), while the Golden Bears drop to 8-13 (1-3 CNE).
How it Happened:
-The Bulldogs would put up a valiant effort in the first set, but would ultimately fall by just five points and start the match 0-1. Senior
Katie Jones (Franklin, MA) got the party started for the Bulldogs, securing the team's first kill.
Maddy Seymour (Simsbury, CT) would shortly follow her with a service ace.Â
-Dean would slowly climb back in the first set, securing kills from Seymour,
Caitlin Cooper (Amherst, NH), and
Chloe Demaio (Needham, MA). They brought the set to a point difference, but the Golden Bears would step back in here and take the first bout.
-Set two would bring the same result, seeing the Golden Bears take it by a score of 25-17.
Mia Cote (Hopedale, MA) would have two kills in the set, followed by another kill and service ace from Jones.
-After being down 0-2, the Bulldogs would begin their march. Set three would be a grudge match from both sides, with the lead never surpassing five points. Western New England would also flip a three point deficit into a three point lead of their own, scoring six straight points. However, Thanks to kills from Dean's front line, the Bulldogs would take set three by a slim 26-24 victory.
-Jones would open the fourth set with yet another kill. This then prompted Dean to go on a 6-2 run, including points from Jones, Seymour, and
Skylar Raskevitz (Easthampton, MA).Â
-The Golden Bears would hold a brief 12-11 lead halfway through the set, but Dean quickly snatched it back. The Bulldogs would go on another six points run to take a manageable lead. A kill from Cooper, paired with a WNE attack error, would eventually give Dean the fourth set. The match would now go to a decisive fifth set.
-After controlling the entirety of the second half, the Bulldogs maintained their momentum in the fifth set. They opened on a four point run with kills from Jones and Cote. WNE would try to mount a comeback, but an impressive 6-0 run at the end of the set would stomp their effort. The Bulldogs would secure the reverse sweep and take the match by a score of 3-2.
