West Hartford, CT- The Dean College Women's Volleyball team rallied to take two combined sets from the University of Saint Joseph (CT) and Emmanuel College in Saturday's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tri-Match. However, Dean fell in both matches by a final score of 3-1 each, dropping to 1-13 (0-7 GNAC) on the year.
Match One: University of Saint Joseph 3, Dean College 1:
The Bulldogs came out of the gate swinging, taking the first set by a score of 25-20. Dean would also take seven of the set's first ten points.
Maddy Seymour (Simsbury, CT) would record the match's first kill, followed by a service ace from
Emma Siniscalchi (Huntington, NY).
Caitlin Cooper (Amherst, NH) also added two kills in the ten point rally. Along with the offensive efforts, Dean also forced consecutive efforts from the USJ side. After a strong effort in the first set, though, Dean would go on to lose three, closely-fought, sets. The Blue Jays would take the match three sets to one.
At the heart of Dean's performance was Demaio, who turned in one of her most efficient outings of the season with
16 kills and a .552 hitting percentage. Seymour anchored the attack with 11 kills.
Skylar Raskevitz (Easthampton, MA) also turned in one of her best defensive performances of the season with 19 DIGs.
Match Two: Emmanuel College 3, Dean College 1:
While Emmanuel would take the first set in the match, Dean would fight back and take the second from the Saints. Cooper turned in one of her best performances of the season, totaling 12 kills on 18 total attempts. The Bulldogs, like their set win in the early window, would jump to an early lead, taking the first eight points.
Carly Rettberg (Haddam, CT) would record multiple service aces, along with several attack errors from Emmanuel. Even though Emmanuel clawed back, Dean would hold on to win the second set by a score of 25-23. Emmanuel would eventually win the match by a final score of 3-1.
Individually, Cooper paced Dean with 12 kills on an efficient .556 clip, with Demaio contributing 10 kills and 2 blocks, and Seymour adding 9 kills and 4 aces. Rettberg dished 28 assists, and defensively, Raskevitz led the team with 9 digs.Â
