WESTON, Mass.- The Dean College Bulldogs defeated Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Regis College 79-67 on Saturday afternoon n the conference opener for both teams. The win improves Dean to 9-2 overall (1-0 GNAC) while the Pride drop to 5-7 (0-1 GNAC).
The Bulldogs were led by 20 point efforts from both
Frankie Idlett (Miami,Fla.) and
Billy Ray Barnes III (Inglewood, Calif.). Senior
Ja'maine Davenport (Mays Landing, N.J.) added 13 points off the bench while
Greg Farrow (Milwaukee, Wis.) and
Christian Yeates (Atlanta, Ga.) both contributed nine points. Junior
Randy Vasquez (Methuen, Mass.) collected 15 boards while adding six points.
Dean led 33-26 at the halftime break. Regis trimmed the deficit to five with under nine minutes to play, but the Bulldogs used a 9-0 run, capped by a Davenport layup on a second chance opportunity, to build a cushion. Dean held on down the stretch for the 12 point win.
The Bulldogs shot 49% to Regis' 36. Dean dominated in transition, outscoring Regis 35-0 in fast break points. The Bulldogs also led 17-10 in points off turnovers.
Dean is back in action on Tuesday when they host Albertus Magnus at 7 p.m. in GNAC action at Pieri Gymnasium.
