Franklin, MA.- The Dean College women's basketball team fell in their Saturday contest versus the Norwich Cadets, 61-79 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Pieri Gymnasium. The Bulldogs now fall to 5-13 (0-6) on the year, while Norwich moves to 7-9 (1-5).
the offensive opportunities came in abundance for both sides at the beginning of the contest. Both
Azaria Landry (Petersburg, VA) and
Tori Viau (Johnston, RI) opened the box score with consecutive three-point opportunities. However, neither were able to convert. The same pattern fell on Norwich, dropping multiple chances from long range and keeping the score to a stand-still.
Alexandria Paquet (Santa Maria, CA) got Dean on the board with two free throws while forcing Norwich to commit multiple fouls. Dean trailed Norwich 9-18 heading into the second quarter.
The Bulldogs quickly turned it around in the next quarter. Along they still trailed heading into the locker room, Dean outscored Norwich 16-15 and continued to stay aggressive on offense. Both
Jordan Ellis (Bridgeport, CT) and
Alexandria Paquet began the quarter with field goal conversions, while
Maranda Cournoyer (Millville, MA) took advantage of the Cadets' foul mishaps.Â
Abi Boutin (Rocky Hill, CT) came out of halftime on a mission. The sophomore scored eight points while converting over 60 percent from long-range.
Azaria Landry and
Kendrah Doane (New Salem, MA) each had three points in third quarter as well. Going into the final quarter, Dean trailed Norwich 39-53.
The fourth quarter saw the Bulldogs bring back life, going on a 7-2 run in the first three minutes.
Azaria Landry and
Jordan Ellis each knocked down baskets, with Landry connecting on three different free throws later on.
Alexandria Paquet also jumped into the driver's seat, scoring eight points and converting 50 percent from the field. In the end, however, it would be Dean falling to Norwich 61-79.
The Bulldogs are back in GNAC action versus Anna Maria College on Wednesday, January 29th, at 5PM EST.
