Men's Basketball Glides Past Elms, 85-67

FRANKLIN, Mass.- The Dean College Bulldogs men's basketball team weathered a series of second half runs by the visiting Elms College Blazers, eventually pulling away for an 85-67 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory on a snowy Saturday at Pieri Gymnasiun.

Dean led by seven at the half 40-33, after leading by as many as 15 earlier in the period. Elms threatened throughout the first 15 minutes of the second half, closing the deficit to four on multiple occasions, but the Bulldogs bounced back and took control down the stretch. A 9-2 Dean run extended their lead from 4 to 11 with five minutes to go in the game, highlighted by two put-back layups from Randy Vasquez (Methuen, Mass.) Dean extended their lead to 17 on free throws from Christian Yeates (Atlanta, Ga.) and Billy Ray Barnes III (Inglewood, Calif.) to put the game away.

The Bulldogs spread the scoring around, with five players in double figures. Barnes led the way, scoring 19 points on 8-9 shooting while adding 10 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season. Yeates added 17 points while Frankie Idlett (Miami, Fla.) continued his high-scoring pace, scoring 16 and adding seven assists. Greg Farrow (Milwaukee, Wis.) scored 11 points, while senior Ja'maine Davenport (Mays Landing, N.J.) and Vasquez scored 10 and nine points respectively.

Dean (10-3, 2-1 GNAC) is back in action on Wednesday when they travel to New England College for a 7 p.m. tip.
